There will be a novice-orange grading this Wednesday 6-10pm in Talybont Dojo. This will be followed by a post-grading social which includes pubs in Cathays, Lloyds Bar and Live Lounge. Sunday Course

There is a course this Sunday (4th) from 2-6 in Talybont Dojo! Everyone is welcome to attend, and the cost will be £10. The course will be followed by the Christmas meal at Talybont social. Training and BBQ

Hi everyone, there is training this Saturday in Swindon from 10 -1. This is always a really good training event with a chance to be taught by some up-and-coming instructors and fill yourself up with yummy bbq goodies afterwards. Training plus bbq is only £10 (although you have to provide your own meat). There is also the chance for fun and games afterwards (weather permitting). If you're interested in going please give me or Tom a call/ text and we can try to sort out some transport.

Summer BBQ -- 25th June 2011
The Summer BBQ will be in Swindon. The event combines with the Stage-3 instructor course with a training session from 10am-1pm followed by a BBQ. It's open to all grades, their families, friends and kind-of interested, both the training and the BBQ. There will be the usual inter-club games and included in the BBQ are veggie stuff (rolls, sauces, a few sides, soft drink), facility hire at the park and charcoal. You only need to provide meat and alcohol should you wish. Tickets are £10 for training and BBQ or £5 for training or the BBQ alone. As this is an "open" training event friends and family are very welcome to come and have a go!

Aiuchi Jitsu Ball

The next Biennial Ball will be held on Saturday 7th May in Cardiff. We will be training during the day from around 12pm for 4 hours. The evening Masked Ball starts with a drinks reception at 7pm followed by a sit-down meal from 8pm, at the Novotel Cardiff Center. Tickets cost £30 each

As this is a Masked Ball (Masquerade) there is a formal dress-code, so black-tie and ball gown if you have them or suit, long dresses, kilts. Don't forget your masks and for the more flamboyant amongst you feel free to dress up in Venetian masked ball attire if you wish.

If you are thinking about joining the club remember you are more than welcome to have a free session any time of the year before you think about membership. Just letting everyone know what's happening at the start of this year 2010/2011:

We're still training over the summer: Monday and Wednesday 6pm-8pm at Talybont Sports Centre. The sessions are now costing £4.

The Athletic Union's Sports Fair is on Wednesday 29/09/10, 10am-5pm. This is the biggest opportunity we have to welcome new recruits; so please come along and help if you can make it!

Term begins on the 4th November so it should be back to normal by then!

Summer Training Costs

Hi everyone, from now until term time starts again in late September training will cost £4.20 for non-students and £2.10 for students (with your NUS cards). Unfortunately staff do not seem to get a discount, but please feel free to bring this issue up yourself with your employer/talybont if you feel this is incorrect.

Hey guys, a handover of power in the committe is taking place as we speak. So your new social sec is going to be Laura Packer (the posh ninja- that's her official title). She's arranged a social this Sunday starting at the Woody at 8, then another pub, then on to Live Lounge.

Club Grading

Last week (03/10/09) Cardiff hosted a national course and grading taught by the leading instructors from the Aiuchi Jujitsu Association. Jennifer Cox was awarded her Purple belt (3rd kyu) and Andy 'Mitchell' Davies earned his Yellow belt (6th kyu) at the event. At the very end of the course Sensei Smiley was presented his yondan (4th degree black belt) by the association's head of style. Congratulations to those who passed their gradings and to sensei Smiley.

We will be taking gi (the white training suits) orders at the end of next week - so please speak to me if you would like one. Also, please remember that the Athletic Union has reminded all students to pay their annual membership for the clubs they wish to join (by 16/10/09). It's very important that the jujitsu club is represented fairly so please endeavour to sign up online as soon as possible.

Metros Night Out

Our social next week is going to be on Wednesday (7th) to metros, for those who don't know it's a rock club, which is pretty cheap and sells toast!!! However if anyone is superstitious and has a dodgy knee than maybe give the night a miss (just ask Sensei Tom), otherwise meeting in the Gatekeeper (another weatherspoons) between half nine and ten, and then going onto metros quite soon after that as the queue tends to get long... don't forget student cards!

It's the first training session tonight and we're looking forward to seeing all the new faces! Don't worry if you can't make it tonight, you can come along to any of our weekly sessions, held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and don't forget your first session is free!!!

We go to the pub after every training session so they'll be plenty of time to get to know each other.

This Thursday night will be the first Curry Club of the new term, just go to Talybont Social after training and we'll go from there.

This Saturday there will also be a social, starting at Central Bar at 7.30 for a meal and then off round the pubs and clubs... if you need directions please ask....

Sports Fair Round Up

Thanks to everyone to helped out at the fair yesterday. We had a great day and spoke to lots of new people. If you were unable to speak to us at the fair, or you have some extra questions, here are a few reminders:

We take complete beginners any time of the year and remember your first session is free so you can come and give it a go.
There are no teams - everyone is welcome to train as frequently or infrequently as they like.
The ideal kit for training is a loose fitting t-shirt and jogging bottoms - nothing to precious and please remove any jewellery!
Our club membership is £10 and our mat fees are either £2 per session or £60 for the year (great for enthusiasts).

Our first session of the year is Monday (28/09/09), the session begins at 6pm so please be there a little early to sort out people's details. Don't worry if you cannot make Monday, we also have regular sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Yesterday was the Healthcare fayre at the University Hospital of Wales in Heath Park's sport centre. We got to talk to a lot of people about the Jiu Jitsu club at Cardiff University and I hope we get to see lots of new members next week.

If you did not have chance to see us at the fayre, you've got a second chance this Friday from 9am-5pm. The Sports Fayre is in the Great Hall of the Students' Union - and we will be there all day! That should give everyone a chance to get some more information about Jiu Jitsu.

Aiuchi Summer BBQ - Saturday 27th June

Another Event for your Diaries -

Saturday 27th June, Basingstoke dojo - Annual Aiuchi BBQ event and practical stage 3 course.

There will be training from 11am-2pm, followed by a BBQ. The event is open to all, so feel free to bring along your family and friends to join in - the jitsu and the BBQ! The cost will be £4 for training/BBQ alone and £7 for both.

People are asked to bring a BBQ with them if they can and we'll supply the charcoal, also please bring your gi (or comfortable clothes if you don't have one), meat and drinks. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

Summer is coming!

Summer is just around the corner and we are still training 3-times a week! Cardiff is holding an extra training session from 11-3 on the 6th June courtesy of Sensei Smiley and Sensei Rod. It's open to all grades and we have members coming from other clubs to take part. Who knows there might be a party afterwards!

The last training session of the year is 11th June, so make sure you get to as many sessions as you can! We will still be running session during the summer, but we need to confirm when!

It's the end of the six nations so what better way to celebrate then going to the pub and getting a little or a lot (which ever you prefer) tipsy... we can meet at 11.30 in the morning for some dinner and a few drinks before the matches start. The match times are:

After wards Come Play would be a good idea, but everyone would either have to buy tickets or get to the Union before half nine at least, as it's likely to be sold out, so meeting in the Taff at 9.00 may be the best plan. Unfortunately I can't make it but have a great day of rugby!!! Jen : )

The Woody and Extra Training

Seeing as the union in it's infinite wisdom has decided to cancel our session on Wednesday, we are going to the woody for a few drinks, meeting around half 7-8.

Extra training is booked on Sunday again, ten till twelve, anyone hoping to grade come along. If you have anything in particular you need help on make sure you ask.

Aiuchi 15 Year Anniversary

The Aiuchi Association is celebrating its 15th year on March 7th 2009. There is a special training event followed by a casino/ball in the evening. The ball is open to all present and past Aiuchi members.

The event will cost £30 and I have found a cheap hotel at £35 (upto 3 sharing). If you would like to attend please contact me ASAP!

Silent Disco...

Hey guys, seeing as we're all such a friendly bunch, my friend Helen (who some of you have met) has invited everyone to her 20th birthday celebration on Friday 5th of Dec. at the Point, Mount Stuart Square, in the bay. £7.00 entry, and a £5.00 deposit for the headphones. Some of us will be having drinks in the Prince of Wales, meeting at 19:30 (to allow time for a drink), and then we'll get the bus/train down together, if anyone wants to meet us at the Point doors open at 9. It sounds like a laugh and a good way to meet some new people, everyone's welcome as are friends, don't worry if you haven't meet Helen before; she's lovely!

Christmas Social

As it's the season to be merry it's time to go out for a curry and a drink to celebrate the end of a great term of Jitsu. The plan is to go to the Akash (49 Crwys Road) for a curry after training on Monday 8th of Dec, and then on for drinks and possibly Fun Factory. We have a number of gis (training suits) available for members - £25
We have some Aiuchi Membership filofaxes for recording events and gradings - £12 or £20
We have 1 large red hoodie (07-08) - £20

Don't forget the nationals 15th-16th November (£40) - there are only a limited number of spaces left! First come, first serve!

There will be a club grading on Wednesday 12th November; aimed at novices and white belts wishing to grade to Red. The grading will start promptly at 6pm so if you wish to attend: Don't be late! The grading will cost £5.

Our next social's going to be a pub crawl on Saturday 25th of October, starting at the Woodville @ 8, then on to Mackintosh, Gassy Jacks, Pen and Wig, Central, and Rummer Tavern. It'll be a good way to get to know each other better, and for anyone who doesn't know Cardiff very well to get to know some good pubs, so see you all there.

For anyone interested in Indie/Rock/Alternative music the best night at the union for you is going to be Monday, for Fun Factory. Anyone interested should come down on the 3rd November after training, everyone's welcome, including non-students, but you will have to be signed in by a student. Don't forget to bring your student cards!!!

Also if anyone is interested in seeing anything at the cinema just let me know and I'll arrange a time. I think 'Mirrors' looks good, it's a thriller with Kiefer Sutherland in... let me know what you think, and see you all at training, Jenny.

Membership - again

I know that quite a few people have been struggling to get their membership sorted via the Cardiff students web page (Link) but I've just received an email saying that those problems should be sorted now. Its really important that all our students sign up for club membership and we will have to crack down on those that haven't :( - So go and sign up using the link above, just keep trying if you have difficulties. Aiuchi Nationals

The Aiuchi Nationals are being held in Keele on the 15th and 16th of November.

The two day event contains ~ 12 hours of training and is a great chance to meet other jitsuka from across the country.

Because it is a two day event we will be staying in a Hotel overnight - We are estimating the total cost to be: £40 per person as long as there are three people sharing a room; this includes training fees!
